Academics LANGUAGE ARTS During this month we will emphasize learning the letters of the alphabet and their sounds. We will be exploring fictional texts and discussing how books work. We will learn how to ask and answer questions about texts and identify the main topic and supporting details in informational texts. For fictional texts, we will identify the characters, the settings and major events. WRITING In writing, we will learn how to label pictures and begin to write a personal narrative. We will build mini books that contain a beginning, middle, and ending. Soon I will send a SAVE THE DATE for our 1st Author's Tea!! MATH In math, we will count every day. Additionally, we will learn to identify and describe shapes, and analyze and compare plane and solid shapes. We will explain where items are located using positional words such as above, below, beneath, next to, beside, behind, and more. We will also learn how to classify objects into categories. CONTENT AREAS In Social Studies, we are already discussing the meaning of Labor Day, who does work and what the names of our community helpers are. This allows for some discussion of basic economics. In Science, we will dive deeper into the similarities and differences between animals. We will discuss ways animals move, their coverings, and more! |
Discuss at home.....What is Labor Day? Why do we have that day off from school and work?
Practice telling your home address to each other. Read together nightly and talk about what happened in the book. Count items around the house and make sets to 10. Practice ABC cards and name letters and sounds. |
