September NotesHere is a look at our academics for the month ahead...
Handwriting: Your child is learning and should correctly form letters Aa-Kk Your child should be able to write their name beginning with an uppercase letter followed by lowercase letters. Let Ms. Wilcox know if you need more handwriting support for using at home. Writing: We will continue telling, drawing, and writing narrative stories. We will work on having a beginning, a middle, and an ending. Reading: We will practice all we have learned about what reader's look like. Ask your child about the 3 different ways to read a book! We will also work on retelling familiar stories. We will begin reading books and looking for what is important information after we read. Ask your child about being a detective while they take a picture walk. How can the pictures help us to tell the stories? We will also learn how to sequence and retell a story so that it makes sense! Ask us about our 3 Little Pigs play. Math: We will continue counting to 50, counting objects to 10, and identifying and comparing 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes. Ask your child to tell you how they subitize with their eyes. Word Work: We will continue to identify letters and sounds. Don't forget to practice those "snap" sight words! Phonics: We have been working with letters A-M in both upper and lowercase formats. In upcoming weeks we will learn how to form and recognize letters k-z. We will also continue to identify rhyming words and practice segmenting words. |
