Classroom News
Read with your child every night for 20 minutes. Your child’s reading level should improve at least one level since our October conference by December break. (ex: Level A books should now be Level B) We are working on comprehension and expanding vocabulary. Watch for tracking the print, rereading, and using picture clues as resources when your child is reading. We are developing the pattern of the print through text along with what to do when you get stuck. You may even hear your child talk with the voice of the character.
Mini-Reading Bags
Your child can read to you from their bag as part of your family reading time nightly. Refer to the sheet inside to log what book was read as well as what skills your child is working on in class. This helps us to use the same vocabulary.
Mini book bags and books inside can be returned on Thursdays and Fridays. Once returned, then new books will be placed inside and sent home again the following Monday.
Sight Words
Practice the Sight Words every night with your child. Your child should be able to read the original 25 words by November 1st. Continue practicing these words nightly. Our homework will begin to include building sight word sentences. Your child will also receive a new list of 25 words. It is our goal that each child will read all 50 sight words by the end of 2nd quarter in December. Check yellow folders for new word lists to come home.
Return library books after you have read it with your child. Try to read it with your child on the same night it is sent home, so it can be returned for a new book.
